News 07/02/08:
For those who have been carefully charting the progess of this budding quilter I have little news. Yes, I did get my borders on the quilt top and it looks spectacular (at least to me). Unfortunately that was all the quilting I got in. Some of you who were around a few Saturday's ago got a sneak peak and I do appreciate the nice comments. The rest of you will have to wait until I get it quilted (myself!). I'm reserving some time this weekend to get some quilting done. I'm not sure if I will work on this quilt or the mystery quilt that I'm 3 months behind on. Hmm, sounds like a typical quilter's dilema. Perhaps I'll start a new project :)
In other personal news we just got back from a great family vacation to Washington DC where we saw many of the historical buildings, museums, monuments, and memorials. We even squeezed in a day at Gettysburg, PA. Now that we are back we are gearing up for two big events this month. The first is the quilt run and the second is the Long Beach Quilt Show.
This year's So Cal Quilter's Run covers 39 shops and two long weekends in July (10-13 and 17-20), just before the LB Quilt Show. We have been very busy with preparations including making sample quilts (for the free pattern), buying decorations, getting chocolate for the fondue fountains, and buying lots of new fabric. We'd love to see you come visit our shop and encourage you to visit all 39. We still have flyers in the shop and/or you can go to the website, Quilters Run, for more information. This will be another great quilt run complete with some beautiful charms, quilt pattern give-aways, and of course chocolate fondue fountains (at C&C only!). If gas prices are a concern, our quilters run webmaster has created a web-page that provides a means for you to reach out to others and put together a car pool! Don't be shy. The process is simple, just post a note with your email address and other information using the easy steps listed on the website. Look at other posts to find friends that might also want to car pool. This is a great opportunity to share the fun with other quilters. Use this link for a short-cut to the carpool forum page: Car Pool Link. We look forward to seeing you. You'll recognize me because I'm am certain to be wearing something interesting (like a hula skirt).
Now about the Long Beach Quilt Show. This is going to be one huge show. If you haven't made plans to go, I strongly recommend you set aside a day and go see this show. It covers 3 days, Friday July 25th thru Sunday July 27th. I believe the hours are 10-7 on Friday/Saturday and Sunday, 10-3. While our bus is full, Sharon Kendrick has informed me that she still has a few spots available on her bus for Friday July 25th. Please contact her by email at smkendrick@verizon.net or by calling 805 735-3400. The ticket price is $35 and the bus will pick you up in Camarillo. Contact Sharon for more information.
For those traveling on our bus, please remember to be at our quilt shop by 8:30 AM on Saturday, July 26th. The bus leaves promptly and we do not want any delays. I did obtain advanced tickets to the show for everyone that requested them. The cost will be $8.00, cash only. They will be sold to you on the bus. You do NOT need to pre-buy a ticket anywhere else. Your ticket is reserved and will be waiting for you with the bus. Please bring exact change if possible. No credit cards or checks. We look forward to seeing you then. If you have any questions regarding this bus trip do not hesitate to contact me through email or the shop. We want to make sure you have a great trip.
For those not traveling on the bus I have obtained a limited number of tickets to the quilt show. The tickets are separate for each day and cost $10 each for adults, $8 for students and Seniors 65+. I also have a few 3-day passes available for $25.00. The tickets go on sale this Saturday (not before). You must pay by cash or check. Sorry, no credit cards. The tickets are first-come, first-served. If I sell out quickly I may be able to get some more. I have about 50 tickets for each day. We'll see how it goes.
If you go to the show, plan on spending at least a full day as it will likely be the one of the largest shows you will attend. Be sure to stop by and say hello. We will be in the first row (to the right) when you walk in. There will be new items not previously seen at the shop as well as a few other surprises. See you there!
We have officially started our next Block of the Month program, called Amelia's Rose Garden. Another great pattern from Verna Mosquera of The Vintage Spool. If you haven't seen it yet, the quilt is hanging in the shop and I must say, it's another stunning BOM! Once again this is a 12-month program that can be either paid for up front (for a 10% discount) or paid monthly. The pre-pay cost is $229.50 and the monthly cost is $75 for the first month and $16.36 for months 2-12. If your kit is to be shipped there is an additional $3.50 per month. We still have openings but I warn you they will be gone by the end of the quilt run. If you think you might be interested, don't wait to check it out. To preview the quilts and blocks click on the following link: Amelia's Rose Garden BOM
Last, but certainly not least (in my opinion), we have decided to try something new at Cotton & Chocolate. For a limited time we will be offering a photo transfer service. This service will transfer one or more of your photos to fabric using our high-quality ink-jet printer. The cost varies depending on the number of photos and number of transfers you need but is around $10-12 per 8.5x11 sheet. Some larger sizes are available. Contact myself or the shop for more information. As this is a new service, please be patient as we work out the process. Please allow about 7 days for turn-around on your order.
News 05/28/08:
I hope you all had a great Memorial Day Holiday. God Bless our soldiers for fighting for our freedom! In between the many chores I had for the weekend, I managed to do a bit of quilting myself. My daughter Stacy put together a quilt kit for me at Christmas and I just finished putting together the top. I was so excited I went into the shop on Monday (no one was there) and picked out some great border fabrics and a back. Can't wait for an upcoming show and tell. I'm sure you all want to know so I'll tell you - the pattern is a simple basket weave, but Stacy is an expert at choosing colors and the quilt looks fantastic!!
Now on to the other important news. I've just seen the first of the Christmas fabrics arriving. It's still May. Go figure but I seem to recall one of you anxious quilters asking about it just last weekend. These and many more luscious fabrics have arrived recently so if you haven't been by the shop I urge you to come see us soon.
Do you all remember the 14 quilts made last year and this spring for QuiltPink? Well they are finally on the auction block starting this week for 10 days. If you are interested in obtaining one (and I suggest you do), go to the following link and look for the Week 3 schedule. QuiltPink Link. The quilts are gorgeous, of course, and we are very proud of the work done by our customers and staff in putting these quilts together. Kudos to all!
Are you one of those who missed out on the Cotton & Chocolate Quilt Co. bus trip to the Long Beach Quilt Show in July? If you still want to ride there in bus-style, I urge you not to delay in contacting the following individuals who are working hard to put together a few more bus trips. There is very limited time (like this week only!!!) to help these people secure these buses or they may have to cancel. If you are at all interested, please contact them right away!!!
Friday, July 25th there is a bus from the Santa Barbara area stopping in Camarillo at about 8:00 am. If you are interested in this bus, please contact Sharon Kendrick by email at smkendrick@verizon.net. I believe the cost is about $30.
Saturday, July 26th there is a bus from the Santa Clarita area that will be stopping at the Simi train station at around 8 am. Cost is $36 and I believe that includes the $10 admission. Please contact Virginia Hurlock at (805) 527-8865 or Mary Brewer at (661) 947-9784 if interested.
Finally, I would be remiss if I didn't remind everyone that the Southern California Quilter's Run is just around the corner. It covers 39 shops and two weekends in July, just before the LB Quilt Show. We'd love to see you come visit our shop and encourage you to visit all 39. We have fliers in the shop and/or you can go to the website, www.quiltersrun.com, for more information. This will be another great quilt run complete with some beautiful charms, quilt pattern give-aways, and of course chocolate fondue fountains (at C&C only!). We are very excited and look forward to seeing those who seem to only make it once a year.
News 05/08/08:
We just finished back-to-back weekends of shows are are pretty exhausted. We really enjoyed both shows and loved meeting lots of new customers. Thanks to everyone who came by and said hello. We really do enjoy seeing our regular customers at the shows.
I know many of you participated in our Customer Appreciation program and we look forward to seeing you this Friday night at the auction. For those of you who are not going to make it, we will do our best to find other exciting ways to let you know how much we appreciate your business. I have just a few announcements and notes for you so pay close attention to these details.
First of all, I want to let all of you know that the Wizard of Oz fabric has arrived. Many of you have been asking about it and we got shut out of the first run. Well we now have some and it will go fast. If you are interested, I suggest you hustle up to the shop as I won't be putting it online.
Second, as you know our bus to the Long Beach show is full and I don't plan on adding another. However, Sharon Kendrick (from Lompoc) has graciously chartered a bus for Friday, July 25th. Here are the details. Please contact her if you are interested as she needs to finalize the commitment by this Friday. Cost is $ 30.00 (transportation and driver gratuity). The bus could make a stop in Camarillo at the parking lot at Las Posa Road in Camarillo. She will have to let you know on the time in Camarillo. Departing Lompoc at 6:30 AM so approximately 8:15 AM. They plan to get to the Long Beach Convention Center at 10:00 AM when the exhibits open. Leave from the show 3:30 PM. Can bring drinks and snacks on the bus. Please email Sharon at smkendrick@verizon.net AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you are interested as she must make a decision this weekend!
Third, if you are signed up for the Customer Appreciation Auction this Friday and will NOT be able to attend, please call the shop to cancel so those on our waiting list can attend. We will refund your $5.00. We did have to limit it to 120 as our shop simply cannot accomodate any more. We are super excited about this event and promise you will have a grand time. To get ready for the event we will be closing the store at 2 PM on this Friday, May 9th, and will start registration at 6:00 PM. The auction will start at 6:45 PM. Appetizers and drinks will be served. We can't wait to see you then!
Fourth, our quilt run fabric has arrived. Please stop by the shop to see it in person. It's really quite nice. There is a limited supply and we are taking pre-orders. However, we cannot provide the fabric to you until the run officially starts. Check it out.
